In the Mara

Everyone is doing
what comes naturally
two gazelles, belonging to Thompson
it seemed short and sharp

Two ostrich
with wings flapping
his head bobbing
and weaving
side to side

rapidly finishing
couples coupling

You haunt me again
everyone the night shade of you
the way their shirts spread
across backs

t-shirt lines seen through
heads almost clean shaven
round

And my mind goes back
to the drape and fall
of cloth over mounds
mountains I miss

But I want them all:
Raya Ahava Dode
not your counterfeit substitute

This wait
has put me in peril

Even rescued and restored
I don't know if I'll fall
before the right one is found
