Orange

Your idea of an orange
is an amazing thing
all sweetness and light

My laziness
and my unwillingness
to work for some reward
mocks me as I
bite into
those millions of
tiny wet sacks encased within
sunshine bursts into my
awaiting mouth

I am desperate as a baby
bird
waiting for
prechewed nourishment
my hunger seemingly insatiable

How could I not
want to move
through the thick
fragrant peel
despising the pith and
zest under my nails
even an odd drop of juice
trickling, tickling down my palm
and onto my wrist
the mess before
the explosion of goodness

What else awaits?
Help me to push
through to the goodness.
